However, both services have now been restored, according to an official statement from the company.
Thousands Reported Problems With Venmo and PayPal According to data from Downdetector, reports of issues began to spike around 11:50 a.m. EDT, when more than 8,300 users complained about problems accessing Venmo, including app login failures and transaction delays.
The situation escalated further around 12:00 p.m. EDT, when PayPal experienced a surge of nearly 10,000 outage reports, primarily related to login errors and payment processing issues.
By early afternoon, however, outage reports dropped sharply, signaling that the services were gradually returning to normal.
Caitlin Girouard, spokesperson for PayPal, confirmed in a statement to Forbes that the issue was temporary and quickly resolved.
Both PayPal and Venmo experienced a brief service disruption that has since been resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers and appreciate their patience, said Girouard.
The company did not disclose the exact cause of the outage but assured users that no security breaches or data losses occurred during the disruption.
The outage temporarily disrupted payment activities for millions of users who rely on PayPal and Venmo for both personal and business transactions.
