Since the father’s death, the family had been struggling with financial hardship and social neglect. Somehow, the last rites were performed, but the mother’s death left both daughters devastated.

The mother’s body remained outside the house for hours. Neither relatives arrived, nor did anyone from the village come forward.

The two daughters wandered the streets, pleading for help with folded hands, but it seemed as if their emotions had been lost somewhere.

After a long time, two or three people came, only then somehow the bier was lifted on four shoulders and the last rites could be performed.

In the end, the same scene came to light which forced the entire society to think – the daughters shouldered their mother’s bier and also lit the funeral pyre.

Mausam Singh, the daughter who performed the last rites, says that whatever little money she had for treatment has been completely exhausted.

Now, the situation is so dire that even meeting daily needs has become difficult. Her biggest concern is her mother’s Shraddha rites.

Neither is she financially capable, nor is there anyone to help. Because of this, the last rites have not even been performed after the funeral.

Traditional thinking still does not fully accept the Shraddha and last rites performed by daughters.

In such a situation, these two sisters are caught between tradition and compulsion. Their only request to society and relatives is that someone should come forward and help in their mother’s Shraddha rites, so that her soul may find peace.
