Sheikhpura/Nalanda (Bihar Election 2025): A major development during the ongoing Bihar Assembly Elections has created a political stir.
Independent candidate Vijay Kumar from Sheikhpura Assembly Constituency No. 169 has landed in legal trouble after police seized ₹55,500 in cash and 37 blank cheques worth ₹1.85 crore during a vehicle inspection at Chhatiyana Checkpost in Harnaut block on Tuesday.
Income Tax Investigation – According to police sources, the cheques were signed by Deepak Kumar Sharma, but the recipient’s name, account number, and other details were left blank. The money was reportedly being transported from Patna to Belchi.
Harnaut Police Station in-charge Amardeep Kumar confirmed the incident and stated that carrying such a large amount of cash and unverified banking documents during the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is a serious violation. The cash and cheques have been seized, and further investigation is underway.

Income Tax Department Takes Over Investigation – Following the recovery, the Income Tax Department was immediately informed and has taken charge of the investigation. Officials are probing the source and intended use of the money, especially given the timing during the election period.
Income Tax Investigation – Investigators are also examining the connection between the cheque issuer and the person transporting them, to determine whether the funds were meant to influence voters or used for other election-related activities.
